Facts about Homelessness

Homeless and low-income families are more likely than other families to experience chronic illness, domestic violence, shortened life span, infant death, and learning disabilities. The homeless are significantly less likely than housed people to commit a violent crime.

The work of Family Promise is a collaborative effort.  We cannot provide all of the resources by ourselves, but gratefully there are many other agencies with whom we can partner so that our guests get the maximum benefit as they work toward self-sufficiency.

Suncoast Partnership to End Homelessness

The Suncoast Partnership to End Homelessness, Inc. is a nonprofit organization formed in 2005. Its mission is to prevent and reduce homelessness through collaborating with civic leaders and provider agencies, promoting community engagement and awareness, and advocating on behalf of homeless people and their service providers.

Community Coalition on Homelessness

The Coalition is a private, non-profit organization that provides information and referral, day resource services and rental assistance.  The agency also provides leadership and advocacy for issues related to homelessness.   Family Promise shares in their work through the efforts of PATH (People Assisting the Homeless), a gathering of agencies coordinated by the Coalition.

In addition, the Coalition offers two very important resources for our community.  They manage the ONE STOP CENTER, 701 17th Ave. W. in Bradenton, Florida.  At the One Stop, individuals can find help covering a wide range of issues.

Also, at the ONE STOP, is the OPEN DOOR day Resource Center.  The Open Door is a place where the homeless and others seeking assistance can go to receive help with their most basic survival needs.  Information and referral is provided for other agencies or groups that may be able to assist with needs the Open Door is not able to aid.
